José Bedeur

Studied music at the Conservatoire in HUY.
Won the Adolphe Sax Prize In '62.
Created his own style on double-bass, studying this second instrument by himself, while having been playing the cello since his childhood.
Starts his musical career as leader of the commercial group MELODY SWING QUINTET, then sweeps through the whole of Europe as a jazz player, active with French & American stars like Coleman HAWKINS, Johny GRIFFIN, Martial SOLAL, Claude BOLLING, Tete MONTOLIU, Jimmy GOURLEY, Don BYAS etc.
With a trio including Jean-Marie TROISFONTAINE & Tony LIEGEOIS, plays in the famous Festivals of Comblain-la-Tour, Antibes Juan les Pins, Prague and so on. He then stops playing in public for 10 years, which he spends studying and teaching.

His comeback dates 1978: he can then be heard again with pianist Charles LOOS and the JULVERNE 9tet, later with the trio of pianist Michiel VANDER ESCH and drummer Andreas KRIEGER.
Since then, he has been regularly busy with Alain ROCHETTE, Guy RAIFF, Rene HARVENGT, Herman SANDY, Willy VANDE WALLE and many others on the jazz scene.

Always interested in research, José BEDEUR studied electro-acoustic music and audio-psycho-phonology in Paris.

For 20 years, he has been a member of METARYTHMES DE L'AlR, a duo, trio, octet and now quintet, with pianist Christian LEROY. Composer for this last group, but also for stage performances (Sur le chemin des glaces, by Werner HERZOG, produced by Diagonal Theatre, Les envies satisfaites, by Henri MICHAUX, produced by Hypothesarts etc.) and for films, like Kine Marmor by Manuel GOMEZ, José BEDEUR has written or arranged numerous jazz tunes and songs.
He still goes experimental with DADA CAMERATA VIVA, the ''QUARTOUCHES'' double quartet & his own trio, and "commercial" with many singers, actors and The DOLCE VITA sextet..
He also created various multimedia events in Brussels like an audiovisual show about the French painter Yves KLEIN, the Eric Satie Festival and METARYTHMES et les 5 sens.

In recent years, he was associated with the quartet of saxophonist Michel Mainil (several albums).
