Kieran Fahy violon, alto, fiddle Studied with the Royal Irish Academy of music until 1980. Played with the Irish Youth Orchestra in 1976,1977. Studied violin making in Cork until 1981. Taught music in Clonakilty County Cork from 1979 to 1981. Won first prize at the O’Carolan festival in Keadue County Roscommon in 1978. Took part in several Fleadh Ceoil competitions for Irish traditional music from 1974 to 1978. From 1978 to 1981 played in sessions in Galway with numerous musicians like Jackie Daly, Jackie Small, Liam Lewis. Kieran also taught fiddle during this period.
Kieran plays a style of fiddle that we find in Counties Clare and Galway. His principal influences come from the playing of Tommy Potts, Paddy Canny, P.J. Hayes, Kevin Burke….
Lives in Belgium since 1983. Between 1983 and 1989 played principally with Pat Kilbride, Duck Baker, Siard De Jong at Festivals in Belgium and Holland. 1991, 1992, 1993, 2008, 2009 - Fiddle worksop in Neufchateau Belgium. 1992 - Formed the group Sean Talamh. Recorded a cd with the same in 1992 with Arc Music. 1993 - Recorded a solo cd “Midnight on the Water” Arc music 1993, 1994 - Tours of Germany, Norway, Denmark, France, Belgium, Holland with Sean Talamh now called Shantalla 1994 Met up with Serge Desaunay (accordion),Marco Pollier (Uilleann pipes), Noel Harris (guitar) Tour of the Drome in France 1995 Duo with Duck Baker in Belgium. 1997 Recorded a solo cd “Woman from Tuam” Arc Music 1997 — Formed the group Shantalla formally Sean Talamh 1997 — Fiddle workshop in Virton Belgium with Musique Acoustique. Recorded a cd entitled “The Fairy Queen” Day Job records 2000 Tour of the U.S.A with Duck Baker West Coast. Recorded a second cd with Shantalla “Seven Evenings Seven Mornings” - Wild Boar. Tour of Portugal, Italy, Holland, Belgium. 2002 Formed the group Valerio with Serge Desaunay.
