Baden Powell : "Live in Bonn 11/15/99"

This final solo concert of the last European tour of the famous Brazilian guitarist Baden Powell was recorded in Bonn on November 15th 1999, less than a year before his death on September 26th 2000 in Rio. It bears witness to the return to the stage in top form of one of the greatest guitarists of the 20th century. The physical album - released on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Baden's death - is accompanied by a booklet with photos, texts and interviews by several literary and musical figures.

Baden Powell de Aquino (1937-2000) was a Brazilian guitarist, composer and arranger, considered one of the greatest guitar masters of the twentieth century. His unique style blended classical virtuosity with the rhythm of samba, bossa nova and choro. He composed masterpieces such as Berimbau and Canto de Ossanha with the lyricist Vinícius de Moraes as his partner. His expressive and percussive playing has profoundly marked Brazilian and international music.

Although the repertoire of Baden's solo concerts changed little in the last years of his life, his performances were distinguished by a great variety. Baden never stopped experimenting with new ways of approaching his songs, which he had been playing for many years. He was constantly exploring new sounds, new rhythms, creating unique moods and characters with each performance. During this concert, his instrumental interpretations give off a wild and bewitching energy that literally captivates the audience.

The physical version of the album is accompanied by a booklet with texts and interviews by several literary and musical personalities: Dominique Dreyfus - his biographer -, Marcel Quillévéré, Jean-Paul Delfino, Elodie Bouny, Ivan Lins, Toquinho and Gilson Peranzzetta.

Cet (avant-dernier) concert solo en Europe a été enregistré à Bonn le 15 novembre 1999, dans le club « Harmonie », moins d’un an avant son décès le 26 septembre 2000 à Rio. Publié à l’occasion des 25 ans de sa mort, il témoigne du retour sur la scène en pleine forme de cet exceptionnel musicien.

Bien que le répertoire des concerts solos de Baden n’ait que peu évolué au cours des dernières années de sa vie, ses interprétations se distinguaient par une grande variété. Baden n’a jamais cessé d’expérimenter de nouvelles façons d’aborder ses morceaux, qu’il jouait pourtant depuis de nombreuses années. Il explorait constamment de nouveaux sons, de nouveaux rythmes, créant des ambiances et des caractères singuliers à chaque représentation. Lors de ce concert, ses interprétations instrumentales dégagent une énergie sauvage et envoûtante qui captive littéralement le public.
