- "Solos - duos" - Pierre Van Dormael & Hervé
Samb Musician of many talents, composer and guitarist
Pierre Van Dormael (may 24, 1952 - Sept. 03 2008), has been an essential
figure of the Belgian Jazz scene, and had a significant influence
on several generations of musicians. This album, carefully prepared,
recorded and mixed by himself shows a side of his talent rarely
heard on CD : an intimate and acoustic album alternating solo pieces
and duo with Senegalese guitarist Herve Samb. The repertoire is
made of personal compositions, chosen standards, and covers of the
years 70’.

- "Au fil du temps" - Charles Loos / Steve Houben / Quatuor
Thaïs Steve Houben and Charles Loos have
been playing together for over 30 years.
Their preference has always gone to being original: as a duo (in
which Charles sometimes plays the church organ), or as a trio with
Maurane (making the famous HLM trio)...
On this album, they perform with the sublime string quartet, Thaïs,
in a repertoire composed and orchestrated entirely by Charles Loos.

- "There is an effel there" - Francoise Derissen/Carla Van
Effeltaire Françoise and Carla, who have
written all compositions on this CD, enjoy mixing styles, influences
and rhythms.
Their own personal style has its roots in their common classical
music training. Their project? A poem, a tribute, an urge to move,
a story directly inspired by life.

- "Stone Sculpture" - Peter Hertmans / Erwin Vann 4tet feat.
Nic Thys & Billy Hart
It was my dream to make a record with Erwin Vann. We talked about
doing so in New York and thought it a wonderful idea to contact
a master drummer we both admired since years, the great Billy Hart.
Nicolas Thys, the exquisite Belgian bass player living in New York,
was the obvious choice to complete the project.

- "Tempo Feliz" - Boris Gaquere & Renato Martins "Tempo
Feliz is a great recording, bare, sober, incisive, full of life
and rhythm. An original duo formed of a Belgian guitarist and a
Brazilian percussionist. The material is written and arranged by
contemporary Brazilian guitarists and composers (Paulo Bellinati,
Marco Pereira). Also to be found, music from Baden Powell and Luís
Bonfá arranged by the great Sérgio Assad. Boris Gaquere
also proposes his own music imbued with the colours of Brazil. There
is in Boris a marvelous control of the guitar, a beautiful essential
rhythmic sprightliness for this demanding repertoire. He finds in
Renato Martins, straight out of São Paulo, an ideal partner
for these melodies.”

- from jazz to baroque, ou l’inverse! This
cd is the result of a fantastic meeting between two teachers in
the summer workshop of La Musique des Cuivres in Le Monastier-sur-Gazeille
(France). Stéphane Legee (baroque music teacher) and Phil
Abraham (jazz teacher) decided to work together for a concert, a
unique event in this festival, mixing the two wide fields of those
two musical streams.

Mimi Verderame 4tet - "Mister Jo"
“How on earth can such an accomplished drummer
play the guitar with such a competent facility and such a good jazzy
sound - is anybody’s guess! A delightful package of eight
Mimi’s compositions well wrapped up. A Michael Blass in top
shape along with a superior Kurt Van Herck and with Philippe, my
long time partner on bass. A remarkable sax/drums duet to conclude
the program. A very nice drums sound. Definitely for qualified jazz
music lovers.“ (Philip Catherine)

MÉNAGE ARTOIS
The combination of piano and Hammond is rarely
heard yet the two instruments go together supremely well. There
is greath warmth but also an amazing dynamic range. The addition
of percussion takes the idea into new territory and creates a new
freedom for the roup’s improvisations.
