Muziek de Singe

Muziek de Singe is a project initiated by Gilles Kremer and Maxime Tirtiaux. Both from the town of Nivelles, they found themselves studying in Louvain-la-Neuve in 2001. From the very beginning, their friendship was doubled by the pleasure of playing together. It didn’t take long before their musical collision resulted in a union that would later become "Musique de Singes".

After a first homemade EP in 2002, a third musician joined the band. It happened at the market. The duo became a trio by welcoming tenor saxophone Giersé Gaspard. They spent the next years playing in the streets and on various stages and in 2004 they produced an LP including 10 compositions. Soon after Gaspard decided to go down his own way.

He was replaced by Martin Kersten, who took over as soloist soprano sax and alto. In 2007 the trio became a quintet in 2007 with the arrival of bassist Marc Derbaix and percussionist Martin Chemin who marked a definitive step in the shaping up of today's Muziek de Singe.

In early 2008, they recorded a new demo containing 5 titles. In November 2009, Benoit Dumont becomes the new bassist. Voila! The quintet is complete and the connivance is total. The band has maturity and is ready to go in 2010 into the studio to record their LP « Les nuages ne font pas de lait ».

This first album was warmly received by the public ( “Coup de coeur” Fnac ) and the media (Nicole Debarre on La première , Le Mad in Le Soir, Dragonjazz , Musiczine , etc. ). At the same time, the band " Muziek de Singe " played in various venues (Muziekpublique , Le petit théatre de la grande vie à Forzée , L'An Vert, the Houseboat l'Ex-cale, La ferme de la Dime, The Bonnefooi , Le Coq , etc. . ) events ( Art & cup 2012 ), festivals ( Esperanzah 2010, Jazz at home Mechelen 2010, Folk festival Marsinne 2012, les sentiers de Sart-Risbart 2012, Stavelot jazz festival 2012) and cultural centers (Charleroi, Bièvre, Anderlecht ) and continued its musical quest.

Gypsy swing, gradually gave way to musical inspirations increasingly targeted, diversified and personal. "Between the electrified acoustic and electric that unplugged, the new compositions show a refined musicality in an original, fresh and creative style, for the delight and surprise of neverheard atmospheres ."
Their new compositions will be materialized in a second album to be released in September 2013 and entitled " Fermé le lundi ." The release of the album will be preceded by an original show intended to visually and narratively enhance the concert.

Since their first album, the musicians have all become professionals. With other groups , they travel in Europe and beyond, with Kermesz à l'Est , Turdus Philomelos , the Peas Project , Benoit Minon trio, etc. . They have also collaborated with Pierre Chemin on a project entitled “le Jouet musical”, a series a concerts for kids, which materialised in a CD bearing the same name. ( www.lejouetmusical.be ).

These five monkeys are emancipated in various musical styles such as folk, jazz, Balkan music, African music, rock and funk. And they each pursue their quest for fusion and creativity, off the beaten track in the project Muziek de Singe which crystallizes their creativity and harvest the fruits of their experiments.
